Boom and gloom

You might be wondering where I’ve been the last few days. Basically, here, tucked snugly under the love seat in our living room.

This past weekend was a tough one for me, on account of my least-favorite holiday, Independence Day. And it wasn’t just one day of torture this year, but three, since the holiday fell on a Sunday and humans decided to extend the festivities through Monday. So for three days and nights I had to listen to loud explosions purposely set off by humans. At least I didn’t get shot, which is something that hundreds of people could not claim when the long weekend was finally over.

And it wasn’t just the neighborhood fireworks torturing me, but the thunderstorms as well. We had a couple of real boomers here! So I cowered under the love seat, which has become my de facto ThunderShirt, waiting for the skies to clear and for saner heads to prevail.

  1. Dear Mr. Oxbow,
When it comes to celebrations with “Fireworks” there are NO SANE PEOPLE! Anyone who steals, lies or purchases explosive devices are nuts. When will cheap, quiet and beautiful LED displays become available to the public? Remember a few years ago when Lady Gaga sang the star spangled banner with a gorgeous LED display in the sky.
We do not need bombs, explosives or any kind of noise maker to celebrate the 4th of July. It is all absurd.

  2. ps…..I would like to apologize to all critters and humans disturbed by the insanity of these “fireworks”.
The poor birds get knocked out of their roosts, the cats and dogs acute hearing gets utterly assaulted, the whole ecosystem that thrives on harmonic vibratory responses gets exploded out of whack.. I could go on but I won’t. When will human beings have compassion for the impact of their explosive devices???
