Don’t box me in

thinkingI don’t care what humans say, sometimes I do my best thinking inside the box. For instance, today I had a profound thought: Given all the years of history, both human and animal, is there even such a thing as an original thought? No matter how clever or insightful we think we might be, chances are that someone, or something, before us has thought the same thing.

This, of course, is a very disturbing thought for a writer like myself. I think I’m going to have to retire to the sofa and sleep on this for a while.

  1. Sometimes I get my best ideas “inside a box” as well…my shower stall. Ideas are like waves in the ocean, there are lots of them coming at us all the time. Sometimes there is a wave (idea) that we catch and do or create something— like this blog.
Others times we just let the wave (idea) pass. Sometimes that wave is ridden by someone else and is thought to be “original” like the wave Steve Jobs caught for a computer in your pocket. That idea changed the entire planet. We are all given these ideas Mr. Oxbow…but sometimes we just have to take a nap.
