Will you be my Valentine?

Valentine

Wishing all you lovers out there a sweet day!

And for those of you who don’t have someone special in your lives, remember that love can be found in many places, if you just look for it.

I suppose technically I’m a single guy, but I have two very special ladies in my life whom I’m very grateful for. I’d buy them flowers today, but then I’d have to eat them, and most of them aren’t very good for my digestive system.

A selfie-improvement tip

Don’t move! Yes, that would be my one tip. When you hear the shutter click, just stay still. As you can see here, I’m a bit of a blur. Come to think of it, much of my life has been a blur. Sometimes it’s just the way things are. It looks like I was trying to scoot out and escape, although my memory of the event is a bit hazy.

Anyway, my mamas were awfully impressed during their recent vacation when they received this photo, courtesy of my new pet sitter, Julie, at right, and her daughter Reagan. Just the mere fact that I was even out and about was pretty impressive to Those Two! I guess I’ve set a pretty low bar with my social skills with strangers.

I’m going to try to do better in the future.

Back in charge

the perch

Nothing demonstrates dominance better than towering over someone, and I’m happy to say that life here is back to the way it should be. As any cat “owner” knows, we run the place!

For the past week, however, there was nothing to run. Yes, Those Two left me alone again and, despite daily visits from kind and loving pet sitters, I was pretty darn lonely. I tried my best to put a stop to the trip before it even got started, but my efforts failed and they were soon gone, leaving me to wonder if they would ever return, and, more importantly, when my next meal would be served.

Now don’t get me wrong — I’m glad my mamas had a good time. They work hard, and they like to play hard, too. They went skiing in Montana and their photos looked beautiful, though a bit too cold for me.

But I sure am glad they’re home again. Mama C is back to desperately trying to find a food I like, constantly opening pouches and cans, and Mama G is back to sleepless nights, afraid to disturb me after I’ve positioned myself snugly against her for a delightful rest.

For me, every day is a vacation, except when it’s time for theirs.

This polling place is closed

Today I was planning to use this photo to have a little narcissistic fun. I was going to attempt to embed a poll so that you could vote on whether you think I’m cute! I figure a guy’s got to keep up with technology in today’s fast-paced environment or he’s toast.

Well I guess I’m toast, because I couldn’t figure out how to do it. I suspect Mama G was probably too cheap to spring for the advanced version of WordPress that would have allowed me to do it easily. It couldn’t possibly be that I was really too dumb to figure it out!

Oh well, we all know how that poll would have turned out, right?

Freewheeling

cars

Never mind the ball dropping, did I miss the first 12 days of the year, too? Where did they go? Maybe I was just too wrapped in my new favorite activity to notice the time passing.

The street we live on is busier than our old one, and I’ve recently discovered the joys of wheels. Now wheels and walls have been in the news a lot lately. Apparently they’re the greatest inventions ever. Personally, I’d vote for clumping cat litter, but that’s beside the point.

Anyway, I can now pass hours laying on the back of the sofa, watching the cars go by. Some of them are especially exciting because they are obviously traveling way too fast on a residential street! Some are absurdly loud and I kind of feel bad for the drivers, because they clearly have issues.

Sometimes I entertain a fantasy in which, while pursuing my pastime, I witness something — something big and important that humans struggle to know more about. I continue to sit there on my perch, silent, my knowledge of the incident cloaked by my mysterious golden eyes.

I’ll never talk.

Having a ball, sort of

So there I was last night, sitting in my favorite box, waiting for the ball to drop, as humans like to say at this time of year. I’m not sure what it means exactly, but I was trying my best to understand.

I waited …

… and I waited some more.

Did I miss it?

Oh well, happy new year!

Ho ho ho!

Well it’s apparently that time of year again, because Those Two scooped me up this morning and forced me to sit with them in front of that strangely decorated tree for a family photo. I tolerate this annual tradition, but just barely, and only because I know I’ll be rewarded with treats afterward. Today was no exception.

Anyway, merry Christmas to your family from ours!

Lions and Tigers … oh my!

So Those Two recently returned from one of their getaways, this time to Detroit. I think I once mentioned that the Detroit Lions would be my favorite football team, if I were to have a favorite football team. Truth is, I don’t care much for silly human games. But I found myself in awe when my mamas showed me photos of the ballpark where the Detroit Tigers play.

Comerica 1

As you can probably see why, I might just have a new favorite baseball team as well, even though nothing propels me into a 15-hour nap like a “pitcher’s duel,” the term humans use to rationalize why they’ve just wasted four precious hours of their lives on a game that had virtually no action. In any case, the statues adorning this ballpark sent chills down my orange spine.

Mama C, as a diehard Red Sox fan, tried to look intimidating back, but there was really no contest. And what kind of name is Red Sox anyway? Go Tigers!

Window washer

I must apologize to my loyal fans, all two or three of you, for being such a blogging slacker lately, but I have been busy in so many other ways. As Those Two will tell you, there’s so much to do when you move into a new house!

One of my chores of late has been to help keep the windows clean. Those cold nights leave such a delicious layer of condensation on the windows in the morning, and I look forward to doing my part to keep the view out back clear.

I think I would have done well in school. I appear to be pretty good at licking inside the lines!

From window seat to aisle seat

love seat

So yesterday Those Two decided to move some furniture around, and I elevated being a couch potato to a whole new level. If I had been an actual potato, you could probably say I was twice-baked!

You see, I was resting comfortably on the back of the love seat, enjoying the view out the front window, when they decided to move it and swap positions with the sofa. Hey, no sweat off my back, especially since we cats sweat through our paws! I was just along for the ride, literally. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.
