Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you all find something to be thankful for today. Among many other things, I’m especially thankful for Those Two, who apparently saw something in me that other shelter visitors didn’t. I know they’ve never regretted their decision.

My holiday got off to a good start. I got to watch part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

turkey

This turkey wasn’t quite as exciting as the ones who regularly wander through our backyard, but he was entertaining enough. I did notice a lack of feline representation in the parade, but that’s typical. It’s tough living in a dog-oriented culture!

After the parade I decided to do a little yoga on the back of the sofa. Here I am doing the downward Butterball.

I’m totally chilled out now and ready for whatever the day brings. I hope you are, too!

Just saying …

Humans are funny. One of the many things that intrigues me about them is their collection of curious sayings. For instance, I’ve often heard them say, “I’d love to be a fly on the wall!” Sorry, but I don’t get it. I’ve been staring at this guy for hours, and I just don’t see the attraction.

My favorite season

Fall

I just love fall! It’s such an invigorating time, when the warm days start to give way to the crisp nights, and the outside world seems to explode in my favorite color — orange!

It’s also a season that fosters introspection and contemplation, and I find myself gazing out the window for long periods and pondering such things as: When are Those Two going to fill up my food dish? Will Mama G ever stop tossing and turning so I can get a decent night’s sleep? Should I take my afternoon nap on the love seat or the bean bag chair? What are those birds squawking about again?

I hope you appreciate the season, too, whatever it is you might be thinking about.

The moment of truth

I had a very nice weekend, because Grandma C came to visit me. Well, technically she was coming to visit her daughter and Mama G, and I just happened to be there, but in any case, we hit it off smashingly well and just like a cat, I turned it into all about me!

As you may remember,  Grandma C was working on making me a “thunder shirt,” since I’m afraid of storms. She’s pretty creative, That One. Well the moment came when it was time to try it on and unfortunately it was a bit of fail, as I couldn’t walk in it.

Grandma C

But my grandma is a good seamstress, so after a few alterations, the shirt was placed on me again. I guess everyone was expecting me to freak out, but I have to admit, it felt pretty darn comforting, which is the point! I just went and chilled out for a bit, feeling all snug and loved.

So bring on the wind, rain, lightning and thunder! I just hope someone is home at the time to put the shirt on me.

A pie in the face

OMG, I’m mortified! It turns out that delicious scent on Mama G’s hiking boots was, at least in part, cow pies! I learned that my mamas were in some country called Switzerland, and happened to be there for a special event, when the dairy farmers bring their cows down from the mountain pastures for the winter and parade them through the village. I guess Those Two weren’t tough enough for the bulls in Pamplona, so they settled for the cows in Lauterbrunnen.

Here’s Mama C picking her way through the cow pies. I apologize for the poor quality: it’s a screen shot from video because Mama G accidentally deleted her 400 trip photos and had only video left. I haven’t heard her curse that much since the 2016 election!

cow pies

I have to say after watching the video, cows could sure use a lesson from us kitties on proper bathroom etiquette. They clearly don’t care where they go, and covering up afterward isn’t even on their radar!

I think we could also teach cows a thing or two about dignity. What other creature would passively allow itself to be herded through streets lined with tourists, practically a flowerpot on its head and a giant bell on its neck? I’m a very peace-loving guy, but please don’t try that kind of stuff on me!

cows

I also saw some photos that Mama C had on her phone, and I wasn’t too happy about those. It looks like Those Two were cheating on me again, petting cute Swiss kitties whenever they got the chance.

cheating

I know I shouldn’t be jealous, though. It was only because they missed me so much, and needed a cat “fix.” I really missed them, too. I’m so glad they’re back home. The cows probably are, too.

The mouth that roared

Well I’m still waiting for a company that makes cat food, or litter, or any other feline product to call and sign me up as their new spokescat. But after more than two years of waiting, I’m starting to think it’s unlikely to happen.

So I decided to think outside the box, even though I do some of my best thinking while in the box, and am now setting my sights on Hollywood in my quest for fame and fortune. Maybe I have a future as the next MGM logo!

roar

Mama G looked into the matter and read that there have been seven different lions used since 1916. Some of them look pretty ferocious and intimidating. I think MGM could stand to soften its image a bit, and I bet that last fella is nearing retirement age.

So MGM execs, give it some thought. I think it’s a role I could really sink my teeth into, even though I have only two left.

Shirting the subject

Oops, I almost forgot: I promised you something today, didn’t I? Funny how the time slips by!

Anyway, I mentioned rain yesterday, which of course makes me think of storms. Although I’ve recently made strides in overcoming some of my social shyness, I have definitely not overcome my fear of storms. And there have been a lot of them this summer!

Fortunately, my loving Grandma C is working on a cure for my fear. She’s making me a thundershirt, not to be confused with the copyrighted ThunderShirt. Yes, this is clearly a shirt born of Yankee ingenuity and thriftiness, as shown by the comic strip “pattern” Those Two attempted to try on me recently. I wasn’t sure which was worse at that point, the thunder or the shirt! But I have a feeling it’s all going to be good in the end.

It’s awfully sweet of my grammy to try to help me, and I’ll keep you posted on the progress of this project.
